How often does BS 5266 require emergency lighting tests in London commercial premises?+
Monthly function tests (flick-test, check the lamp comes on), annual full-duration tests (run until the battery dies, confirm it lasts the rated time), and a full inspection every three years. The Responsible Person must keep a logbook. Most fire risk assessors will ask for it.
Can I do the monthly emergency lighting tests myself, or does an electrician need to do them?+
You can do the monthly function tests yourself if you're competent and you log them properly. Annual duration tests and three-year inspections should be done by a qualified spark, battery capacity, lux levels, wiring integrity. We offer fixed-price annual contracts that cover the lot.
What happens if emergency lights fail the BS 5266 test in Essex or London?+
We issue a defect report, quote for remedial work (new batteries, replacement fittings, circuit repairs), and re-test once fixed. If it's a fire-safety-critical failure, we'll flag it immediately so you can manage the risk while we sort the repair.
Do you install new emergency lighting systems as well as test existing ones across London and Essex?+
Yes. We design, install and commission new emergency lighting to BS 5266 and BS EN 1838, escape routes, open areas, high-risk task areas. Once installed, we can take over the periodic testing on a contract basis.
