BS 5839-1 mandates weekly call-point tests, quarterly inspection of detectors and sounders, six-monthly battery checks (if standalone), and an annual full-system test with simulated fire conditions. Most landlords and insurers also want an annual certificate from a competent person. We'll set up a schedule that hits every deadline without you having to track it.
What happens if your test finds a fault in our Essex fire alarm system?+
We log the defect, photograph it, and issue a non-compliance notice on the day. You'll get a fixed-price quote to rectify, faulty sounder, corroded wiring, panel fault, whatever it is. If it's a critical failure that leaves the system non-operational, we'll flag it as urgent and prioritise the repair. You stay compliant, your insurer stays happy.
Can you test fire alarms outside normal working hours in central London?+
Yes. Retail units, 24-hour facilities, and West End offices often need testing between 6am and 8am or after 10pm to avoid disrupting trade. We'll schedule around your busiest hours. The test still takes the same time, but we won't set the alarm off while your tills are ringing.
Do you provide the BS 5839 logbook and compliance documentation?+
Every test visit gets logged in your BS 5839 logbook, digital or paper, your choice. Annual certificates are issued as PDFs with photographs of panel readings, detector counts, and any defects found. If you're missing a logbook or the previous contractor walked off with it, we'll set up a new one and backfill what we can from your existing records.
